Cat win for Kevin and PB for Llyr in weekend races…

Kevin Slattery wins his veteran age category at Pontefract Parkrun

NWRRC chairman Kevin Slattery crossed the border and travelled to Yorkshire last Saturday for the Pontefract 5k Parkrun and celebrated his long journey by winning his M65-69 veteran age category in a fast time of 22 minutes 38 seconds, amongst 342 finishers.

This was Kevin’s debut both at the home of cakes and at this parkun, and judging by the results it was a fast race, with the winners confirmed as: 1st Ashley Crow (Wakefield & District Harriers) in 18.21, with 2nd Chris Strutt (Ackworth Road Runners) 18.48, and 3rd Danny Moore 19.49.

Llyr sets PB despite tight rugby legs

Another NWRRC athlete performing well in the same English county last weekend was top rugby referee Llyr ApGeraint-Roberts, who set a new PB time at the Gilberdyke 10-miler in East Yorkshire of 61.26, finishing 28th out of some 500 runners, and he was 4th in his MV45 age category.

After the race, Llyr explained: ‘I went into the race with tight legs after refereeing yesterday, but I was happy with the outcome!’

This was another fast dash with the first twenty runners all dipping under the hour. The race was won by Lee Milburn (Rotherham Harriers) in 52.17, but it was a very close-run contest with 2nd placed Matthew Nelson (City of Hull) finishing in 52.31, and in 3rd place was John Birch (Hallamshire Harriers) in 52.41.
