Success despite the wind and rain for North Wales athletes at Conwy Parkrun.

Ten members of North Wales Road Runners took part in the Conwy parkrun last Saturday and despite cool, wet and windy conditions, with plenty of puddles underfoot, five members still claimed age category wins, including two runners in the top-ten finishers.

Josh Keogh was the first club man home finishing 2nd overall but he was the 1st SM30-34 age cat winner in 17 minutes 56 seconds, and Carla Green was the 1st female finisher again, and the 1st VW45-49 cat winner in 21.04.

With many other top runners missing due to other commitments including the London Marathon and Chester Metric and marathon races, it was left to the veteran runners to record some excellent placings and good finishing times.

Master veteran Rob Fryer continued his fast improvement in form to win his M65-69 age cat in 24.31 in 35th place, with Don Hale 38th overall and 3rd in the same age cat in 24.46, and Tony Gibson, made a welcome return to parkrun in 53rd place, and he also won his VM60-64 cat in 25.32.

Jamie Tharme enjoyed a steady run finishing 39th in 24.47, and Helen Hannam opted for a more relaxed run in these challenging conditions, finishing 60th overall and 4th VW45-49 cat in 26.35.

And Teenager athlete Mia Morris, who was recovering from her midweek evening run at Denbigh, won her JW15-17 age cat in 28.09, whist club newcomers Sue and Mike Smith celebrated good performances, with Sue claiming a new PB, and finishing 103rd, and 3rd VW55-59 cat in 30.37, with Mike 107th in 31.29.

Conwy parkrun attracted 174 finishers and the event was won by promising young athlete James Smith in 17.28, and he won his JM15-17 age category. Josh Keogh of NWRRC was 2nd and 1st SM30-34 cat winner in 17.56, with Carl Everall 3rd overall, and 2nd SM30-34 cat in 18.38. Praise was given to the parkrun race organisers and to all the volunteers and marshalls.

*Gethin Wyn Jones became a parkrun tourist last weekend and finished 6th overall and came 2nd in his VM35-39 age cat in 21.13 on his debut at the Pont y Bala parkrun.
